Shriya Sapher Batch 2020
The intent of this thesis project is to create a space that celebrates and preserves the craftsmanship integral to the Thrissur Pooram festival while fostering a sense of community among the artisans. Through the concept of a living museum, the design offers a platform where the craft-making process itself becomes the exhibit, allowing visitors to engage with the artisans’ work culture, stories, and creativity.
Rooted in the interplay of people, place, and time, the project draws from Thrissur’s cultural and spatial context, incorporating insights from historical reflections, lived experiences, and interpreted meanings. By weaving elements of community, tradition, and storytelling into the architectural fabric, the design seeks to honor the artisans’ contributions, raise their visibility, and create an inclusive space that strengthens connections between the people, their crafts, and the city’s evolving identity.
