After his graduation, Varun had worked as project architect at Auroville Earth Institute, Auroville, India; assistant architect at WS ATKINS Plc, Bangalore, India; principal architect at Biome Environmental Solutions, Bangalore.

Varun is founding member of Handmade Architecture, a non-governmental organization dealing with the research, documentation, practice and diffusion of
vernacular and sustainable techniques of architecture and landscapes.

He was full time professor at Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Queretaro, Mexico for 3 years(2014-17). Presently he is a professor at Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro, Mexico and visiting faculty at WCFA, Mysore.
