The Idea of Home through History
Master Class by Prof. Smitha M B

Responding to the noted Architectural Historian Nikolaus Pevsner’s thought that architecture can rightfully claim social superiority due to its ubiquity and incessant impacts on everyone, this talk focuses on a building type that is fascinating for its propinquity in our lives – the residence. This talk made an attempt to understand how and why the shift of residences from being public to contemporary private homes. It is hoped such an exploration will help in comprehending the inherited forces shaping what we now recognize as ‘home’, and our symbiotic relationship with architecture.
